It’s easy for kids to get dehydrated when they’re distracted by trees, bugs, and adventures. But running around in the sun, especially at elevation, can quickly zap their energy and make them cranky or even sick.
Start the day by encouraging a full drink of water. Give each kid their own water bottle — fun colors or designs can help — and remind them to take sips often. You can even make it a game: “first to finish two bottles gets to choose the first marshmallow.”
If plain water doesn’t do the trick, try adding electrolyte powders or even fruit slices to make it more exciting. Avoid too much juice or soda, which can backfire. Watch for signs of dehydration like dry lips, headaches, or fatigue. Hydrated kids are happy campers.
